چکیده

Using a uniform analysis procedure, we measure spatially resolved weak gravitational lensing and hydrostatic X-ray masses for a sample of 18 clusters of galaxies. We find a radial trend in the X-ray to lensing mass ratio: at r2500 we obtain a ratio MX/ML = 1.03± 0.07 which decreases to MX/ML = 0.78± 0.09 at r500. This difference is significant at 3σ once we account for correlations between the measurements. We show that correcting the lensing mass for excess correlated structure outside the virial radius slightly reduces, but does not eliminate this trend. An X-ray mass underestimate, perhaps due to nonthermal pressure support, can explain the residual trend. The trend is not correlated with the presence or absence of a cool core. We also examine the cluster gas fraction fgas and find no correlation with ML, an important result for techniques that aim to determine cosmological parameters using fgas.

The Dark Matter , Gas and Galaxy Distributions in Abell 2218 : A Weak Gravitational Lensing and X - ray Analysis

We report on the detection of dark matter in the cluster Abell 2218 using the weak gravitational distortion of background galaxies. We find a highly significant, coherent detection of the distortion in the images of the background galaxies. We use HST images from the Medium Deep Survey to calibrate the suppression in the observed distortion due to atmospheric smearing. The inferred 2D mass dist...

Three-dimensional Multi-probe Analysis of the Galaxy Cluster A1689*

We perform a three-dimensional multi-probe analysis of the rich galaxy cluster A1689, one of the most powerful known lenses on the sky, by combining improved weak-lensing data from new wide-field BV RCiz Subaru/Suprime-Cam observations with strong-lensing, X-ray, and Sunyaev-Zel’dovich effect (SZE) data sets. We reconstruct the projected matter distribution from a joint weak-lensing analysis of...

Weak Lensing Mass Reconstruction of the Interacting Cluster 1e0657-558: Direct Evidence for the Existence of Dark Matter

We present a weak lensing mass reconstruction of the interacting cluster 1E0657−558 in which we detect both the main cluster and a sub-cluster. The sub-cluster is identified as a smaller cluster which has just undergone initial in-fall and pass-through of the primary cluster, and has been previously identified in both optical surveys and X-ray studies. The X-ray gas has been separated from the ...

A combined analysis of cluster mass estimates from strong lensing, X-ray measurement and the universal density profile

We present a combined analysis of mass estimates in the central cores of galaxy clusters from the strong lensing, the X-ray measurements and the universal density profile (NFW). Special attention is paid to the questions (1)whether the previously claimed mass discrepancy between the strong lensing and X-ray measurements is associated with the presence of cooling/non-cooling flows, (2)whether th...

Mass and Gas Profiles in A1689: Joint X-ray and Lensing Analysis

We carry out a comprehensive joint analysis of high quality HST/ACS and Chandra measurements of A1689, from which we derive mass, temperature, X-ray emission and abundance profiles. The X-ray emission is smooth and symmetric, and the lensing mass is centrally concentrated indicating a relaxed cluster. Assuming hydrostatic equilibrium we deduce a 3D mass profile that agrees simultaneously with b...
